Privacy Policy and Data Protection

We are committed to ensuring the privacy of the information you share with Hiotlabs. Our privacy policy describes what data we collect and how it is collected, processed and stored. Our privacy policy also describe your rights as a customer.

This privacy policy is effective May 25th 2018 and comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What type of data does Hiotlabs collect?

• We collect name, address, zip code, country, mobile number, email address when you sign up for our service
• We continuously collect humidity, temperature and battery status from the sensor  and events like urgent water leakage. We also collect data on events such as slow water leakage and sensor offline
• We generate longitude and latitude based on the address where the sensor is located.
• With the users approval, we collect the id of the mobile device to allow for push notifications to be sent.
• We log which features are used by the user in the mobile app.
• If a user chooses to share his sensor to another person, we will save that mobile number. If that person chooses to download and sign in to the app, it will be possible for that person to complete with its name and email address.
• Information that a user leaves in contact with us during email address, sms or voice conversations.
• We temporarily log the IP address from which the sensor is communicating to our service. It is used for troubleshooting and kept for only a few hours.

How do we collect data?

We collect and process data

• that you share when you sign up for our service, or equivalent data we receive from the stakeholder who offers you our prevention service (eg an insurance company).
• when you act on events, whereof you have been notified through email, sms or push notifications through our app.

• that the sensor continually sends to us.
• when you contact our support in order to assist you with your case.

How do we process personal data?

Hiotlabs processes your personal data for a variety of purposes.

Mainly, we process personal data for the purpose of providing, administering, developing and adapting our service and its functionality to fulfill the agreement with you or the provider offering you the service (e.g. your insurance company).

The personal data can also provide basis for market and customer analyzes, market research, statistics, business follow-up and business development. In addition, data may be used for marketing and advertising, but at an aggregated level without traceability to you as a person.

Hiotlabs processes your personal data to provide a better and more personalized service. Personal data including sensor data and address data may, for example, be processed, collated, segmented and analyzed to provide information and recommendations on damage prevention directly by us or through the services our collaborators are offering. Hiotlabs’ interest is to provide relevant information and offers to its customers.

How long do we retain data?

Your personal data is retained only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which the data was collected. Exceptions apply to data that must be stored for a longer period of time to comply with legislation.

To whom do we provide your data?

We may share selected data with certain trusted third-party services to help us deliver and improve our services. As an example we use 3rd party solutions for distribution of e-mail notifications.

We may also provide personal data to companies through whom we are providing our services to you, such as your insurance company.

As a general principle Hiotlabs does not share data with 3rd parties other than above without your consent.

Where do we store your data?

All data (including personal data) is stored in Swedish data centers.

Your personal data may be transferred to or stored in a non-EU/EEA country, provided that adequate protection is available or Hiotlabs and its data processor have taken appropriate safety measures, such as standard clauses or Privacy Shield framework.

How do we protect your personal information?

You should always feel safe when you leave your personal data to Hiotlabs. We have therefore taken the necessary safety measures needed to protect your personal data from improper access, change and deletion.

The protection is implemented with systematic, organizational and technical measures to ensure integrity, confidentiality and accessibility.

What are your rights?

You are entitled to:

• request access, rectification or deletion of your personal data,
• request a limitation of processing of your personal data,
• objection to personal data processing, as well as to data portability.

Hiotlabs will normally answer your request within two weeks after you contacted us at privacy@hiotlabs.com.
